What To Look For When Selecting A Pest Control Service

By Dave L. Weglin

When a homeowner first realizes that there is a problem with pests in the home, the best thing to do is consult a professional pest control service. They have the training and equipment needed to effectively put an end to such an issue. Before hiring such a service, it is important to make sure it will do a good job so it is advisable to keep these points in mind.

If possible, it's best to have a company referred by a friend or family member. This provider needs to score high in both the work they perform and in customer service. Selecting a minimum of three companies and then phoning them to ask about their techniques and contract options is the best way to start one's search.

Most jurisdictions have their own licensing requirements which a company must have. Although it is not usually required by law, an insured company is preferable since it is covered in the event that a worker gets injured or harm is done to the property while the treatment is being applied.

One should also find out what kind of service the company has a record of providing their customers. This can be accomplished by asking for references, checking online reviews, and looking them up with the Better Business Bureau. There should also be some kind of guarantee for the work done, however most often such agreements also require customers to also do their part in preventing a recurrence.

The first step should involve a representative from the company assessing the property to determine which the type and extent of the pest problem, which approach would be best to remedy it, and how often this is indicated. A price quote should also be given to the client. This representative should discuss all possible treatment options with the customer, explain any risks there may be, and answer questions they might have.

The contract accounts for stipulations made by the customer such as special considerations for health and safety. It should state which method is being applied and that it was agreed upon by both the provider and the client. The frequency of application needs to be specified as well in this contract.

After the pest control service has applied the appropriate remedial actions, the customer must watch to make sure it was successful. The company will usually expect that the customer will also take particular actions to keep the property in such a condition that it does not encourage repeat problems with pests.
